“I want to be a grandma with great skin, that’s my philosophy”, reveals Miranda Kerr, who, at 41, practically glows out of my screen – and it’s very hard to believe that she just had a baby. We’re chatting over Zoom from her Los Angeles home, where she lives with her billionaire husband Evan Spiegel, the 34-year-old Snapchat founder and their three children, Hart, 6, Myles, 5, and seven-month-old Pierre; plus, her oldest son, Flynn, 13, from her first marriage to actor Orlando Bloom. So, when it comes to ageing (and possibly everything else), she’s clearly on track.

Unfortunately, my own camera angles have never quite looked so brutal as they do sitting opposite a literal supermodel. Yet I instantly feel relaxed around Miranda. And, what is supposed to be a 30-minute call, extends into a leisurely two-hour chinwag.

As her equally gorgeous golden-haired cavapoochon, Teddy, barrels in and out of her minimalist white office background, she opens up about the pressure she puts on herself as a mother, how she’s an exercise procrastinator and struggles with neck pain from breastfeeding. But it’s somewhere between confessing that she has IBS and brandishing a bunch of the celery that she juices daily to help with her gut health, that I realise: this superwoman is surprisingly human. And, yes, annoyingly likeable.

You might not expect this, given that since rising to fame as the first Australian Victoria’s Secret model in 2007, she’s walked for everyone from Dior to Chanel and Givenchy – and has been consistently ranked by Forbes as one of the highest-earning supermodels.

However, Kerr is more than just a pretty face: she is also the savvy, hands-on CEO of her other baby, Kora Organics – the certified organic skincare brand she founded (and invested all her money into) in 2009. This was inspired by her mother’s experience of spleen cancer. “We realised that what you put on your skin soaks in. So we were looking for alternative, healthy products, not just clean – because clean wasn’t even a thing back then – using ingredients that are internally good for you too”.

From moisturisers to masks, supplements and cleansers (her latest launch being the new Active Algae Calming Cleansing Balm), they’re formulated with organic ingredients – which some studies have found to contain 60 per cent more antioxidants than non-organic fruit and veg – such as turmeric, noni fruit and kakadu plum. (I’ve tried a few, and trust me, they really do smell good enough to eat.)

She juggles all of this alongside raising her four children – but if you’d think childcare wouldn’t be an issue for the super-rich, it’s not so simple with Miranda. “My mother worked and unfortunately wasn’t able to be as involved in our lives, so I put this pressure on myself”, she says. “Even when we have someone to watch the kids, I have this mother guilt. I just want to be with them if I’m in the same house”.

After having her eldest at 27, Kerr says she felt the pressure to get back to work – and was literally walking in Paris Fashion Week two months later. But, she admits that it’s different having a baby in your forties. This time, she took a much gentler, slower approach to postpartum recovery with Pierre, kickstarting a longer maternity leave over the summer by following a book called The First Forty Days, by Heng Ou – which involved 45 days of intensive bonding (think: plenty of skin-to-skin contact, oil massage and breastfeeding).

“Now I prioritise my family over anything else and they come first, then health and wellness.I feel like health is wealth”, she adds. “The more I connect with myself, the more I can give to the kids because I feel like I’ve filled up my cup”.

Indeed, she’s a confessed wellness junkie, poring over all of the latest health tech (much to the bemusement of her techie husband, who she says is always laughing at her latest gadgets and gizmos). “All these hacks are to try to support me to live my crazy lifestyle”, she explains. And, as she bounds away for the millionth time to go fetch whatever new elixir she wants to enthusiastically demo for me, I believe it. This is not another celebrity jumping on the clean living fad bandwagon: in fact, I’m not sure I’ve met anyone else as genuinely obsessed with health and wellness (except for, perhaps, GTG Editorial Director, Victoria Woodhall!)

What does she think about injectables? When I broach the topic of Botox she keeps shtum, saying only that it’s not even an option for her currently, because she’s still breastfeeding. Yet, she’s adamant that her skincare regime gets natural results – and can’t resist swooping super close to the camera, to proudly show me her non-existent wrinkles.

As for all of her other secrets to looking – and feeling – so good? Let’s find out.

11 beauty & wellness hacks that supermodel Miranda Kerr swears by

1. Waking up with 1 litre of celery juice to boost digestion

Each morning Miranda drinks one litre of organic celery juice on an empty stomach, over the course of a few hours. She cold presses a whole bunch each time in the Omega MM1500 Celery Slow Juicer, £479, and has a special celery drawer in her fridge – which she keeps stocked up by visiting her local farmer’s market twice a week. For novices, she recommends starting with a glass and working up.

It’s a ritual she’s been doing religiously for six years since being diagnosed with proctitis, a form of IBS, while pregnant with her son Hart. “It’s an auto-immune thing and they don’t necessarily have the answers to why, which is frustrating”, she explains. But she thinks that the anti-inflammatory benefits of celery have helped to improve her gut health, alongside other lifestyle changes, as she is now in remission according to a recent colonoscopy.

Plus, she makes extra for her husband and son Flynn, too. “I kind of enforce it, but my husband always has his coffee first – he’s like, nothing is gonna take me away from my coffee!”

2. The glowy concealer cheat to look good on Zoom

Kerr’s favourite natural makeup cheat is to ditch the foundation and instead mix concealer with facial oil using a brush or beauty blender. Her go-to brand is RMS Uncoverup Concealer, £38, which comes in a pot, and she combines it with a few drops of Kora Organics’ Noni Glow Face Oil, £65: “I wanted to get that kind of look like I wasn’t wearing makeup, the skin is just glowy. ” She also applies RMS Redimension Hydra Powder Blush, £33, to her cheeks and the tops of her eyes. Then pats the Kora Organics Silky Sun Drops SPF30, £52, serum on top of her makeup several times a day, to refresh the glow.

3. DIY hot and cold contrast therapy at home

Once a week Miranda spends 15 minutes in her home sauna, before hopping into a cheap inflatable ice bath from Amazon, filled up with ice from her freezer and kept on her balcony. She finds this DIY contrast therapy (going from hot to cold) energising – and also practises the Wim Hof Method breathing techniques while she’s in the cold water, to help boost oxygen production.. Like many celebs, Kerr also owns a portable Higherdose Infrared Sauna Blanket V4, £559.20, because, as she puts it: “You can keep your head out and even be on a business call – I like to multitask!”

4. This organic shampoo and conditioner for ultra shiny hair

For a good hair care brand that is natural, Miranda recommends Rahua: she uses their Classic Shampoo and Conditioner, £34 and £36, to keep her long hair healthy. They contain Palo Santo oil, which is known for its purifying effects, and she finds the woody scent de-stressing. To finish, she recommends rinsing in cold water, as she says, “it closes the hair shaft and gives your hair that shine”.

5. A magic healing peppermint pen!

Instead of mints, Miranda carries Doterra Peppermint Essential Oil Beadlets, £26.52, in her handbag: they’re little beads that burst in your mouth and refresh your breath – but she also finds that they help with digestion. If she’s feeling stressed, she will pop a few drops of peppermint oil in her hands and breathe in deeply five times. And, she’s obsessed with the Saje Peppermint Halo Wand, £127.20: it looks like a felt-tip pen and contains a tingling formula of peppermint, eucalyptus and lavender for soothing aches and pains. She rolls it onto her neck to ease breastfeeding pains, or onto her temples for headaches. “If you’re tired it wakes you up, it’s so good, I’m telling you! The other day, my husband had a headache – and he’s been so anti this for so long because he says it smells so minty – but it completely eased it”.

6. Four minute bitesize workouts

Miranda’s go-to exercise regime is a mix of yoga and dance cardio. Her favourite type of yoga is Kundalini, and she rates the Kundalini Lounge app for it’s short, doable tutorials, such as the ’12-minute Power of Kundalini Yoga Flow’ workout. “I put the baby on the floor and follow this – and feel so much more energised after”, she raves. She’s also a fan of Megan Roup’s mini dance cardio workouts on The Sculpt Society app, such as the four-minute postpartum dancing arms with your baby, and seven-minute pelvic floor lifts. She explains that these short, bitesize workouts fit best into her busy childcare and work schedule: “I think, I could do five minutes here, another ten minutes there – and you feel less pressure”.

Although, she admits that even she can be a bit of an exercise procrastinator. So, she’s adopted a new mantra that she heard about on the Diary of a CEO podcast, which she listens to while on the treadmill. “If I have an extra half hour, I think, I could do a 20-minute workout. So I’ll say to myself: ‘5, 4, 3, 2, 1 – just do it!’ Otherwise, we can talk ourselves out of it.”

7. Placenta pills for rebalancing hormones

Like various high-profile mums – from Chrissy Teigen to several Kardashians (and even one of our GTG writers) – Kerr has tried a niche practice called ‘placenta encapsulation’, where your placenta is freeze-dried and turned into capsules that you can take to supposedly help balance hormones. It might sound out-there, but she says she felt better after taking them for one month postpartum. Plus, she had some of it bottled into a tincture that you can keep taking, now and then, all the way through to menopause, as she puts it: “for those days when you’re just feeling a little off”. She’s done it with all of her children and uses the same woman every time, but can’t remember her name – “she’s just saved as placenta lady on my phone!”

8. A massage gun to soothe breast-feeding aches

Another on-the-go essential for Miranda is her Theragun Mini, £109 – a pocket massage gun which she uses to soothe the aches and pains in her neck and shoulders from breastfeeding Pierre. She still does a mix of feeding and pumping every three hours, at six months, and says:”I keep it on me at all times and it has helped so much: it’s my best friend!”

9. Weekly hyperbaric oxygen therapy for gut health

Once a week Miranda goes for a hyperbaric oxygen treatment – and like our GTG staffer, is a huge fan of its energising benefits. This involves breathing 100 per cent pure oxygen in a compressed chamber (whereas the air we normally breathe is only 21 per cent oxygen). It was gut health expert, Dr Amy Myers, who put her onto it, as it is thought to have major health benefits – from reducing inflammation to healing damaged tissue. And Kerr thinks that it’s one of many lifestyle changes this year which has helped in her recovery from proctitis.

10. Old school ways to calm the mind

Kerr is a long-time follower of Transcendental Meditation, the technique which involves silently repeating a mantra in your head to settle the mind – and you can’t tell anyone what it is. And she’s even got her 13-year-old, Flynn, doing it too. “Some days it’s easier than others, you get into that space of not even saying it and that’s the ultimate”, she says. When she needs an extra boost, she also uses the free guided meditations on the Insight Timer app. And, she always keeps a bottle of that old classic Nelsons Bach Rescue Remedy, £8.60, to hand for stress relief.

11. Lectin-free meal plans for improving gut health

Although she’s tried many diets over the years, Miranda is currently following a recipe book by Dr Steven Gundry called Gut Check: Unleash the Power of Your Microbiome to Reverse Disease and Transform Your Mental, Physical and Emotional Health, £14.99. The idea is that you avoid foods that contain high quantities of lectins, a type of protein found in certain fruit, veg and grains that has been – somewhat controversially – linked to digestive problems. Although this diet has been criticised for lack of scientific evidence, Kerr is convinced that this has helped to improve her gut health this year.
